A registered psychotherapist is another type of mental health professional who also has the training and experience to treat mental health issues and promote well-being. In the Province of Ontario only members of College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) may call themselves “Psychotherapists”, “Registered Psychotherapists”, or “RPs”. Members of this college who are working towards gaining their full license to practice use the designation “Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)” during that period. Registered psychotherapists usually hold a Master’s degree in psychology, counselling, or some other, relevant field. Unlike psychologists, registered psychotherapists are not allowed to diagnose clinical conditions, but when it comes to providing treatment, the roles of psychologists and psychotherapists overlap greatly. Registered psychotherapists can also work in a wide variety of healthcare settings and must adhere to the ethical standards and guidelines of the CRPO. Some extended health benefits packages will cover the costs of sessions with a registered psychotherapist, while others will not. For that reason, it is best to check with your insurer to determine whether RP services are covered.

Social workers have specific education such as bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD levels. Based on their level of degree, they qualified to deliver a range of services including assessment, counselling, psychotherapy, and referrals. Social workers look at all aspects of a person’s life (personal, family, work or school, and community) when assisting them, which can be especially helpful in complicated situations. Social workers believe pare resourceful, resilient and able.

Nurses who practice psychotherapy, often referred to as Certified Nurse Psychotherapists (CNPs), Registered Nurse Psychotherapists, or Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs), are specialized healthcare professionals who blend advanced nursing expertise with therapeutic, psychological techniques to treat mental health conditions. They provide a holistic, person-centered approach that addresses the intricate connection between physical and mental health, often working with individuals, families, and groups.

Seeing a student therapist offers a high- qulality, personalized care at signfincatly lower cause, often with faster access to care. Students provide, passionate, up-to-date, and supervised sessions, making them ideal for addressing anxiety, stress, and life transitions. Their work is reviewed by experienced clinicians, offering dual expertise.

Key Benefits of Seeing a Student Therapist:
  • Affordability: Student therapists typically offer lower fees or sliding-scale rates ($0–$25 per session).
  • Supervised Care: Student therapists are mentored by experienced, licensed clinicians, meaning your care benefits from a whole network of knowledge and support.
  • Up-to-Date Techniques: Because they are currently training, students bring the latest research-backed treatments, innovative techniques, and fresh perspectives to therapy sessions.
  • Faster Access: Student therapists often have fewer waitlists, allowing you to begin your treatment sooner than with established practitioners.
  • Dedication and Time: Student therapists are often deeply invested in their work, offering high levels of care, patience, and attention.

We do some direct billing for some of our parnters however cannot do all coverage nor have a lot of the infomration on what each individaul plan covers (sometimes it is drastically different even from person to person within the same agency).

Short answer no. We are psychotherpaists, social workers and nurses.

We can however screen and support in your referrals as collatorals. We also have a child and youth psychologist, and a adult one, that we can refer into and they come to our Kenora clinic to do from time to time.
